The One Where Bridges Gets His Day

Cambridge, MA and Malibu, CA (AP) - (Contributing staff writer Kevin Reyes added content) - The grunts and groans over the move of Itstheleasgue.com from Yahoo! to ESPN could be heard all around the baseball world this past week. Players and coaches had more than the weather to be upset about. But one thing Itstheleague.com owners had to be thankful for was the outcome of the championship matchup.

So why all the jubilation? For those of you who live under a rock, Cody Schumacher's perennial powerhouse the Rattlesnakes takes on the first year expansion team Lightning Jeffs. An informal poll of Itstheleague.com team owners found that 11 out of the league's twelve owners wanted the Lightning Jeffs to prevail over the Rattlesnakes. Guess who was the twelfth? Give up? Let's call him Cody S. No, wait that's too obvious, how about C. Schumacher.

Perhaps the informal poll was one reason why so many people turned out for the ticker tape parade honoring the Lightning Jeffs basketball team. The line of yellow hummers was used to parade the players and eccentric team owner Jeffrey Boyd through downtown Riverside (courthouse pillars seen at left of photo).

Thousands of people poured out to support this young franchise. This is the first time since the league's inception that a team won the championship in its first year of play.

Many children sported fake lightning sideburns as a nod to the dedication that owner Jeffrey Boyd (pictured below) shows for his team.

And so, the end of another basketball season is upon us. With basketball season now firmly in the rear view mirror of the Itstheleague.com family, many owners are wondering how to stave off their basketball hangover. The league's official stance is baseball. But it seems this is not adequate for one basketball team owner--

Team owners still in contention are quite upset about the lack of playing time as of late for the big stars who had gotten their respective teams so far. When confronted about the problem, the commissioner's office had this to say, "The playoff system needs to be revamped," said the left head of the two headed monster that has come to be known affectionately as "Commissioner Conformity" and can be seen below.

On the left side with the upside down horns, is Kevin Reyes, AKA Czar, AKA King, AKA Omnipotent Fantasy god. Kevin currently attends Harvard university and is one day destined to rule Cuba. But for now, he rules with a mighty hand from Boston. His motto: Speak loudly and swing a big tail. On the right, meet Daniel Thomson, AKA T-fed. He's 21, enjoys long walks on the beach, is currently studying business at UCR, and has a penchant for dirty South rap music. Let's just hope they're teaching him negotiations (more on why later in the post). Daniel is on the right side of the picture with the purple hand raised. Daniel's hobbies include looking like Kevin Federline and stealing other people's nicknames. (Daniel: You may have had Thunder first, but the judge ruled in MY favor! And the least you could do is photoshop your cheesy Georgia Thunder logo so it says Bangladesh)

In other news, Major League Baseball celebrated longtime baseball legend Jackie Robinson with a day long tribute. Various professional baseball players honored him by wearing the number "42." Jackie Robinson was the first African-American player in the Majors. He played ten seasons in the big leagues before retiring. MLB has permanently retired the number 42 in 1997 for the 50th Anniversary of Jackie Robinson's debut. This year, players were invited to wear the number as a tribute to Jackie Robinson. So, last week, many major league baseball players donned the number in honor of the great baseball legend Jackie Robinson.

Following similar fashion, Itstheleague.com has decided to honor the very first colored member of our league--Trent Bridges. Trent Bridges day will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28. As a token of appreciation for the barrier that Trent overcame, owners are encouraged to rename their team, just for the day, bridgesboyz. Owners are also encouraged to add a few black people to their lineups and to vote for Barak Obama in the upcoming elections (note: that was Kevin's input for the column).

Remember to take care of yourselves...and each other.
